During Top Teen of North America week all contestants will appear in three public
events (not including the group fundraiser). The public events will occur after
contestants have had the appropriate workshops and training to help prepare them
for the event. The events are:
Speech Presentation Night
Contestants will prepare and present a speech on a topic that interests them. The
speech may highlight a concern they have, a cause they are passionate about, or
their home community. They will have public speaking training as a workshop during
the week and receive an opportunity to have their speech critiqued by their peers
and professionals before speech presentation night. Business attire is required
for this event. For the ladies, this could be a business suit, a dress, or a skirt
and blouse. For the gentlemen this is pants, shirt and tie.
Personal Showcase
Are you a passionate photographer? Do you write poetry? Do you sculpt or paint?
Are you a keen singer and/or songwriter? Can you create graphic art? Are you a budding
film director or producer? Do you act? What is it that you enjoy doing? This event
is your opportunity to showcase yourself and your talents. If your showcase is something
you cannot perform live, bring your footage and it will be shown on the big screen.
The only requirement is that you enjoy the skill that you intend to showcase. The
outfit for this event is totally up to you and your requirements for the showcase.
Final Showcase
This event is the culmination of the entire week and gives the judging panel one
last chance to make their final decision. During the final showcase all contestants
will appear on stage in their regional costume and formal outfit as they face their
final interview:
- Regional costume
Create a costume to showcase the history, geography, or industry of your home community.
In this costume you will introduce yourself and talk about your home community.
What makes it great? Examples of regional costumes are: Texas, cowboy/cowgirl –
New York, Statue of Liberty – California, citrus fruit – Nunavut, seal or Inuit
tunic – Newfoundland, fishing industry – Vancouver, raincoat/umbrella – Jersey from
your local sports team. Be creative!
- Formal outfit
For the ladies this is dress clothing or an evening gown. For the gentlemen this
